Things I Love Thursday - Shutterfly

I think its pretty obvious to everyone that I really, really love Shutterfly.

I used them last year to do our Christmas Cards. In fact Jellybean even made an appearance on the cards himself!

Then I used them again to do Jellybean's birth announcement...six months late!

I'm constantly ordering prints from them as I take endless pictures of Jellybean.

So I was understandably super excited when I was invited to once again participate in their 2011 Holiday Promotion. Shutterfly always offers high quality products at super affordable prices.

I love the Christmas card designs they have available this year. I'm having a hard time choosing which one we will use but I think I have narrowed it down to this one

Shutterfly is so much more than just cards though. We are having our favorite photographer do a massive shoot with not only us and the Jellybean but also my sister and her family along with my parents. My plan is to then take those photos and order some beautiful photo books with those pictures. I just know they are going to tear up over that one. I'm also tempted to get the hubby a holiday gift like this -

 I mean what's better than a larger than life image of Jellybean in our bedroom?

I am officially in awe of any mom who works full time and still has time to blog regularly. I don't have time to shower and blow dry my hair regularly - let alone blog. I almost cried tears of joy when I woke up the other morning and realized that Joey had washed all the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen the night before. Of course I'm also hormonal since after 18 months without her AF is making her return so that could be it too. {That means that we can start planning on trying for #2 next year! :) }

On to Things I Love Thursday. This item I don't have yet but it will be one of Jellybean's presents for Christmas. I personally feel that child passenger safety is a huge deal. Jellybean is currently still in his infant seat, rear facing because he is just a tiny little thing. The AAP now recommends we rear face until at least the age of 2. Our plan is to go long past that. It's just safer. That being said his infant seat will be uncomfortable after awhile and he will want to sit up more soon. Rather than investing in a convertible car seat, then a forward facing and then a booster seat - we are going to shell out the big bucks once on one of these.

Is it a lot of money? Yes, without a doubt.

I don't think any amount of money is too great though when it comes to my child's safety. I love this seat because of all the options you get with it though. The car seat can recline into 5 different positions so if he falls asleep I can recline him back and let him snooze. Rear facing up to 40 lbs! Harness can be adjusted with the click of a button. And no needs to keep replacing seats as he grows. This is one investment I think is well worth the money.

I was lucky enough to be contacted recently to review the latest Veggie Tales movie from  Big Idea Inc. I love Veggie Tales and the strong Christian message behind its movies so I jumped at the chance. In fact I see a whole lot of Veggie Tales in Jellybean's future!

Princess And The Popstar  is a spin on the idea of trading places.  The characters are Princess, a farm girl who dreams of life in the spotlight along with a few moments to herself and Vanna Banana, a superstar who wishes for friendship and a taste of normalcy.  The girls have a lucky crossing on the playground and after realizing they look exactly alike they concoct a secret plan to switch places.  The girls quickly realize that their dreams were much better than the reality of the life they thought they wanted and they learn that the life God gave them is the one for which they were uniquely and lovingly designed.

Jellybean of course isn't old enough to understand all the concepts of this movie but I think it will be a family favorite once he is!  They touch on so many subjects that children need help in understanding and coping with from sibling rivalry to accepting that God makes you uniquely you. The film is also full of great music - featuring Francesca Battistelli - who happens to be one of my favorite Christian artists out there. Shutterfly rewards me for my slackerness!

I may have mentioned a few times recently that since Jellybean’s arrival I have been slacking. Lest you think that it is only at my blog which I slack at I wanted to reassure you that it is indeed life in general that I slack at. Along with spring cleaning, shaving my legs, and sleeping.

If it gets washed it most certainly does not get put away. Nope – we wait until the basket runs dry and repeat the process.

EVERY mom out there is on the ball and sends out birth announcements right after their child is born, right? Especially when its their first kid and they are so excited he has joined them.

 

Yep, every mom except for poor Jellybean’s momma.

 

See, when Jellybean decided to make his grand arrival four weeks early and then spend two weeks in the NICU. His momma forgot about those birth announcements. Luckily Shutterfly has my back.

 

For Jellybean’s 4.5 month birth announcements. (What? I’m starting a new trend. And he’s still not much bigger than a newborn!)

 

You might remember that Shutterfly also helped me out with Christmas cards too! Thank goodness for them.

 

Well now they are offering bloggers 50 free spring announcements instead. This is why I heart them so much. That’s not all though! They are going to have my back when it comes time to do Jellybean’s christening announcements (yep, slacking again!) oh and for my Dad – a photo book for Father’s Day – full of Jellybean pictures. And cute shots as Spring takes over here in Florida and we take Jellybean to the beach or to swing out front of the house.

 

 

 

So basically – Shutterfly makes my slacking a worthwhile cause and saves my bootay once again. Dear, dear Shutterfly. I see meetings again for Halloween, Christmas and Jellybean’s birthdays. I’m so glad you know when I’ve been slacking. This is going to be a relationship that will last us a long, long time.

Have you heard?

Last year was my first year doing a photo holiday card. I forced Joey to don a Mickey Christmas hat when we went to Disney for my birthday and convinced a shopkeeper to snap a picture for us. I thought we were pretty darn cute.

 (And I would have uploaded a picture of that card here if only I could remember who I had ordered them from last year.)

I knew I wanted to do photo cards again this year since I could make sure EVERYONE knew that Jellybean was on his way then! I just didn't know who I was going to get them through since you know - we're broke.

Then I was reading one of my favorite blogs Confessions of a Young Married Couple where Katie happened to mention that Shutterfly was running an awesome promotion. If you blog about your Shutterfly Christmas cards, then you get 50 Christmas cards for free! I immediately knew I had to participate in this one!

I'm already a big fan. I have used them for prints from our wedding along with a photo book. I know that I will be using them again after our maternity shoot and Jellybean's newborn photos. I may even put together a little calendar for family and friends since Jellybean is due so early in the year. I’ve also given picture albums to people and those make great little gifts. I'm also considering doing something with the great canvas wall art they have once Jellybean is here. Of course I'll probably have to do the same for the pets so they don't get jealous!

With all that in mind I made sure to get a couple cute pictures with the hubby when we went to the corn maze on Saturday. I'll be playing with them in Photoshop and then I have to pick out our Christmas card. Which will be no easy task since they have so many cute ones to choose from!

Diaper Bag Giveaway Winner!! (along with other nonsensical information)

Otherwise - what you are getting today is a really lame blog post. No pictures. Nothing earth shattering to share. I had a relatively good weekend. Friday night was pretty chilled out. Hubby was cleaning up the yard some and working on various projects. I cleaned a little and stayed glued to the couch for awhile. We made a Walmart run so I could get a refill on my prenatals - which they don't stock so I can't pick them up until tomorrow. Luckily I have some OTC prenatals to get me through. Saturday I went off to my mom and dad's early since I was taking my dad off for his carotid ultrasound. For all of you who do not have insurance and need certain procedures done - I urge you to do your research! I found a place that would do a complete carotid study for $183. Granted it was an hour and a half away but even with gas factored in, it was still cheaper than the sliding scale my dad qualified for at the hospital. On top of that I was able to spend 3 hours in the car with my dad and just hang out and talk. I'm looking forward to repeating this every six months since its time well spent. We really did just talk the whole time. My dad teared up telling the radiologist how blessed he was to have me and my sister, Karolina, there helping out with everything along the way - which in turn made me tear up! The docs should have his results today and then we find out next steps. Surgery etc. Keep him in your prayers if you're the praying sort.

Joey was a champ while I was gone Saturday. He played with the dog half the day. Actually put my clothes in the dryer (on high but he was trying to help!) and he painted the murals in Jellybean's room all day. We still have some finishing up to do but it looks AMAZING!

Sunday was up and down for me. I slept like crap Saturday night since 3 hours in the car does a number on a preggo woman's back. Finally decided I was awake at 7:30 and attacked the house chores. Then I made biscuits and gravy for breakfast and bugged the hubby until he woke up! We buzzed around town for a bit taking care of business and then got in a snit - I think both of us were in a mood and just needed too chill. Once we got back home Joey stayed out back cleaning up the shed while I fumed inside. I cooled off and so did he as the day went on. Baked some cookies, finished up laundry and tried to relax. I wasn't really feeling Jellybean move around as much as usual which had me worried. If I poked really hard he would kick back every once in awhile but I guess he was tired too. He's doing Tae Bo in there this morning so all is well. I made an amazing spaghetti dinner, with salad and made from scratch garlic rolls. Joey ate 4 rolls on his own. Yea - he slept well! 

This morning I woke up to amazing weather - it was only 60 degrees out which is divine for Central Florida! Its supposed to stick around all week! This week is Jellybean's 4d ultrasound and returning this weekend after 7 years we have the 

Joey has never been and it is a really awesome production. Actually for anyone from the Central Florida area - I would suggest attending. So there's my weekend in review. Hopefully I get more entertaining as the week goes on!

Apparently I am incapable of consulting a calendar!

First off - LAST DAY TO ENTER THE GIVEAWAY!!!

Now on to reasons, Diana is an absolute freakin idiot. (Or has massive pregnancy brain and lost her type A personality along the way!) 

So remember that super cool meetup I was going to do? Well it would have helped if I looked at our calendar for the next two months before I planned anything. Let's see, that Sunday I had the meetup planned for? Oh yeah, we have a wedding I already RSVPed for. The Saturday before that - My niece's cheerleading competition and one of my best friends from college will be in town. So scratch that weekend...

Also this month - one Saturday will involve a trip an hour and a half away to do my dad's carotid ultrasound, my other nephew's birthday party, our garage sale, a sister day, finishing up the baby room, and you know maybe relaxing somewhere in there.

November isn't looking much better - we have my birthday,the fair, a visit to the Central Florida Zoo with my parents (I promised my dad this one),  I'm attending this event at the Lowry Park Zoo, there's that whole Thanksgiving thing and who knows what else!

Now I'm starting to see why I have such a hard time actually getting together with friends - I believe that blessedly - our lives are actually pretty full. That doesn't mean that I want to abandon the whole idea of the meetup though. One of the things I am sure we are doing in the next two months is the Long & Scott Farms Corn Maze. If you are from the Central Florida area this event is legendary. I'm sure we are attending because I already bought our tickets. The only unknown variable in this equation is when we will actually be going. I would love some feedback from others so that we can try to schedule the meetup there and I will coerce the hubby to schedule accordingly. SO, what do you think?

For the last installment of Friends You Love - I have one of my newest followers - Single Mom in the South. She's a transplant like me but she was lucky enough to live up north longer than I did! Now she's part of the sweet tea, bless your heart, and yes ma'am southern world.

My parents still live in the same house in which they lived when they brought me home from the hospital.  Although they didn't know each other until later, they both went to the same high school as I did and as a result, many of my classmates were the children of theirs, some of my teachers had taught them, and some of my teachers had gone to school with my parents.

It was a small town. Although now,with increasing suburban sprawl, it is within commuting distance of a major city, so it's not quite the good ole boy network it used to be.  Growing up like that has it's good and bad points, but it definitely leads to a since of security and a resistance to change... or at least it did for me!

When I got married at age 23, except for a short and disastrous stint at college, I had never lived anywhere but my parents home.  Then, I found myself with a husband who was unhappy with his work, resulting in multiple job changes.   With each new job came a relocation.  Suddenly, the girl who'd never lived anywhere else was moving every two years.  Moving down here was a HUGE deal.  Yes, my sister is here, but I've never lived this far from "home".

It's been interesting, having to learn to make new friends for essentially the first time as an adult.  I still have a large network of friends, many of whom I've known since Kindergarten, but with each move, I've had to make new friends. I will say, that for me, having kids has made it easier.  Kids provide an instant common ground.  In each new place, I seemed to make one or two close friends within a larger group of acquaintances and I kept in touch with one or two from each.  The advent of facebook has allowed me to reconnect with many people  and that's been nice.

But, now that I've lived here Below the Mason Dixon Line for three years, I'm finding out the hard way that maybe those friendships were a little superficial.  When you become tight, fast friends with people and then only live by them for a short time, you never have to show your warts and they never see yours.  Your friendship often isn't put to the test of time and conflict... of learning what a person really stands for and finding out that maybe you don't agree.

I'm in that place now.  Over the last year and a half, the fast friends that I made when I first moved here have waxed and waned... morphed a bit.  I've lost some friendships and gained a few more.  It's a sometimes painful process.  For me, even when I know in my heart that a person isn't someone I truly want to maintain a friendship with, it still smarts when there is a need to move away, either on my part or theirs.

But, in each new place, I get to reinvent myself a bit.  I get a fresh start and now, now I can appreciate the gift of change, of friends, and of warts, whether they match mine or not!

Conversations with "The Jellybean"

Jellybean: Hey Mom... (kick, kick, punch, stab)

Me: Ow - where the heck did you find a pencil in there? Anyhow, yes Jellybean?

 Jellybean: Umm..I've got a question...What the heck is that thing?

Me: Oh, that's just Blue - he's our silly puppy!

 Jellybean: Mom - have you seen the size of that thing? He's super scary!

 Me: Trust me buddy - he's not! I mean he snores, farts alot and wants to be snuggled. I think you guys will have so much in common. Look he even has his own teddy bear!

Jellybean: Gee thanks, Mom! Is that supposed to make me feel better? Look at the poor bear. Blue is BITING IT! And there's stuffing coming out of the guy!

Me: Hate to be the one to tell you this buddy - but you'll be biting and drooling all over your bears too!

Jellybean: AS IF MOM! I'm going to be way cooler than those drooly babies! You just wait. 

Me: Sure Jellybean - you'll skip that whole infant stage. Now do you want me to introduce you to Cadillac, mommy's other baby?

 Jellybean: Goodness Mom - what do you feed these things? Nope not ready to meet him yet. I'm going back to my soccer game!

Me: Just lay off the stabbing buddy or you'll be getting some cold wash cloths on that bum in a few months!

On to the Pregnancy Update -

How far along are you? 21 weeks - eeekkk

Total weight gain/loss? Haven't weighed myself this week - guessing 12-14+

Wedding rings - on or off? On

How are you feeling generally? Starting to get a little uncomfortable and noticing I can't do everything like I use to. My desk starts to press against my belly at work or the belly is in the way when I go to squat down. Better get use to it though!

Weekly BOOO HOOOO? The hubby - enough said - right?

Weekly WHOO HOOO? I have a kicking machine in there most nights!

Are you wearing heels or mostly flats? Still a mix of both.

Are you playing the "pregnancy" card? What have you asked for/had someone do for you that you normally wouldn't ask? Wish I could but I'm still chugging along. People at work tend to step in if there's a heavy box or something though.

Do you like your Dr./midwife/doula so far? I love my doctor - he really is great.

Do you have a going home outfit for your baby yet? No but I'm going to start looking soon.

Do you take your prenatals in the morning or at night? At night unless I forget then in the morning.

2. Can you fall asleep anywhere? (i.e floor, couch, deck)
Nope - I'm a picky sleeper. Everything has to be just right or I can't fall asleep! (Boy oh boy is that making this pregnancy fun!) I can't sleep in the car either which makes our drives to Mississippi a blast since I start the delirious babbling at some point too! I think Joey has learned to tune me out by now. He sure does a grand job of it at home at least!

3. Do you use public restrooms? If so, do you sit on the toilet?
Yes and it depends on where and how badly I have to go. I always wipe it down first and if its super scary - I hover.

4. If you were stuck in an elevator for 24 hours, what celebrity would you most want to be stuck with?
Julia Stiles - She's my girl crush but in that I'd like to be her kind of way.

5. Where did you & your significant other go on your 1st date?
His house - we just rented movies and I think we might have gotten Chik-Fil-A. Our first dinner out we went to an Italian place by my apartment. The food was forgettable and the wine was awful!
